ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Barry Shiff

Barry Shiff is a Fort Lee-based painter whose work captures the spirit of “Nostalgic Historic NJ.” Originally from Dorchester, Massachusetts, Barry studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, graduating in 1968. His lifelong passion for art began in childhood and has flourished into a distinguished career working in oils and watercolor.

Barry is best known for his traditional renderings of early 20th-century railroad stations, small-town streetscapes, and majestic sailing ships. Drawing from vintage photographs and postcards, he recreates scenes of a bygone era with vivid historical accuracy and heartfelt charm. Whether painting on location or in his Fort Lee studio, his work evokes memories of the "good old days" in New Jersey and New York.

An award-winning artist with works held in public and private collections—including the Easton Historical Society—Barry is also a dedicated community member. He serves as treasurer of the Fort Lee Artist Guild and is active in the Fort Lee Historical Society, Hackensack Art Club, and the Art Center of New Milford.
